English: Tikal Maya Ruins Temple II on the archeological site Tikal
Deutsch: Mit unter den besterhaltensten Bauwerken von Tikal ist der Tempel I (auch bekannt unter "Pyramide des Großen Jaguars"). Einst war das Fundament dieser Pyramide für ein einfaches Bauernhaus vorgesehen, doch man erhöhte es nach und nach. Daraus entstand der hohe Sockel. Die Hütte selbst baute man zuletzt, nicht aus Holz und Stroh (wie es damals traditionell war), sondern aus Stein und funktionierte sie in einen rechteckigen Tempel um.
