Jenkintown is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, with National Landmarks, an active arts scene, and shops and restaurants. It is approximately 10 miles (16 km) north of Center City Philadelphia.

Beth Sholom
  • 1 Beth Sholom, 8231 Old York Rd, Elkins Park, +1 215-887-1342, . Frank Lloyd Wright, the renowned American architect, designed Beth Sholom Synagogue. It was the only synagogue ever designed by him and the last project that he completed before his death. Beth Sholom Synagogue is a National Historic Landmark as designated by the National Parks Service and the Secretary of the Interior in the Spring of 2007. This distinction makes it one of only 4 synagogues nationwide to be considered an important national treasure. Guided tours: General $15, Seniors/Students/Groups $12, Children under 10 free.    
  • The Jenkintown-Wyncote station building with its Queen Anne-style architecture was designed by famous Philadelphia architect Horace Trumbauer.
  • The Town Lyceum Building (now known as Jenkintown Library) and the Art Deco Strawbridge & Clothier Store are on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Salem Baptist Church hosted Martin Luther King Jr. two months after his legendary “I Have a Dream” speech at the March on Washington.
  • Curtis Hall Arboretum in nearby Wyncote features a national landmark building, two ponds, 50 different tree species and a Valley of Remembrance honoring World War II veterans.

The burgers are very good and they have a great selection of beer on tap. Good atmosphere in charming Jenkintown.

  • Dessert. Sprinkles. This mom-and-pop ice cream parlor serves homemade ice cream.
  • Mirna's. Mediterranean-style dishes. For dinner, try the snapper, served over spinach with a garlic, olive oil and lemon sauce, or the grilled mahi mahi over baby greens and roasted potato with a tomato scallion tahini sesame sauce and crabmeat.
