The Battle of Berezina took place near Barysaŭ in November 1812 during the Napoleon's march on Russia. Nowadays, the most probable reason for visiting the town is football: the local club BATE is the most successful Belarusian football team and the local football arena hosts international tournaments' matches.

- Watch football at 1 FC BATE Borisov, Borisov Arena (3 km south of centre along Gagarin Road). BATE stands for "Borisov Automobile and Tractor Electronics" and they play soccer in the Premier League, the top tier in Belarus. They often do well and qualify for European competitions, and the stadium (capacity 13,000) is also used for internationals. The playing season is March-Nov.
