Behshahr is a city of 95,000 (2016) on the coast of the Caspian Sea, at the foot of the Alborz mountains in the Caspian Region in Iran.

Abbas Abad complex

Ashraff was a village of no distinction until it took the fancy of Shah Abbas I. He made it an imperial residence in 1613 and commissioned the construction of a palace and gardens. It declined in the 19th century due to internal disorder and attacks by the Turkmens, and the paladewas left in ruins.

It enjoys the only good harbour on the southern side of the Caspian Sea.

The nearest airport to Behshahr is Sari Dasht Naz International Airport from the west and Gorgan International Airport from the east . Sari Airport is about 35 minutes away from Behshahr. Gorgan Airport is about an hour and a quarter away from Behshahr.

Behshahr railway station has been serving the passengers of this city for more than 70 years. First and second class trains from Tehran are available daily.

Local trains are also available every day for short trips for travelers in Golestan and Mazandaran provinces.

Behshahr is 285 km from Tehran. After crossing Haraz and Firoozkooh roads and entering road number 22 after crossing Sari, on the way to Gorgan and Mashhad, you will reach Behshahr 45 km from the center of the province.
