Bhadravathi

Not to be confused with Bhadravati in the state of Maharashtra.

Bhadravathi is a city in Shimoga District, Karnataka, India.

It is around 25 km from Shivamogga city. It got its name as it is situated on river bank of Bhadra. It was earlier called Benkipura (very hot place). It is just 10 km away from Shimoga. It is one of the major industrial towns in Karnataka. It has two major industries VISL and MPM.

Being a Malenadu region there are 3 distinct seasons. There is rainy season with heavy rainfall, hot summer and cold winter.

Kannada is the major spoken language. However Hindi and English also used by educated people. Other languages like Telugu and Tamil are also widely understood.

Rail links are available to Bangalore, Hubli, Mysore and shimoga. Daily around five trains are arrives from Bangalore and leaves to Bangalore. The main ones are Shatabdi, Chalukya Express, Inter city Express.

Get around

You will get private town service buses. the ticket price is just around ₹3 to ₹5. By auto rickshaw, its ₹8 minimum to ₹30 max.

• MPM — stands for Mysore paper mills, produces very high quality of paper who's clients are overseas.
• VISL — stands for Vishveshvaraia Iron and steels Ltd, one of the major steel industry in India. It was founded by Sir M. Vishveshvaria.

Kemmangundi (Foggy Day)

• BRP (Bhadra River Project). A dam located south of the city. 
• 1 Hebbi Falls, Chikmagalur. Closed because of banning of tourism in tiger reserves (as of Sep 2012) 
• 2 Jog Falls (Joga Falls), Shimoga. Second highest waterfall in India. 
• 3 Kemmannugundi, Chikmagalur District (Approximately 30km away, Kemmannugundi (a mountain station) has mountain and valley views.). 
• Kodachadri. A very refreshing and spiritual place where Adi guru Shankara Charya enlightened. 
• Koodli (15 km from Bhadravathi). Place where the rivers Bhadra and Thunga join. 
• Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple. This temple was built by the Veera Narasimha, the grandson of Vishnuvardhana belonging to Hoysala Dynasty in the 13th century A.D. The temple has idols of Lord Srikrishna, Lord Purushottama, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Sharadamba and lord Narasimha. The temple is built on a star shaped platform. 

Do

There are many theaters around and the price of the tickets will be cheap - just ₹10 to ₹25.

Eat

Paani poori in Rangappa Circle is one of the best and don't miss if you go here. There are no good quality hotels, but there are hotels like Kanchan, where you can expect cheap, tasty and healthy vegetarian food. Padma Nilaya is a good restaurant to get food and snacks.
