Bilaspur district is situated in Satluj valley in the outer hills and covers area of 1,167 sq km. Its boundaries touch Una, Hamirpur, Mandi and Solan districts.
Satluj is the main river which passes through the middle of the district and divides it into almost equal parts. The district is mostly hilly and elevation of the lowest point is about 290m and that of the highest is about 1980m.

Bilaspur has a hidden asset known as Govind Sagar Lake which is actually a water reservoir of The Bhakhra Dam 93 km away. There is an Old Shiv Temple, which is in the water most of the time but comes out in winter when the water is low.
