Since the 1850s, the Trappist monks in Chimay have produced beer and cheeses to support their order. The beer (also named Chimay) has become one of the most well-loved beers and is known all over Belgium.
The nearest train station is Couvin (about 2 hours away from Brussels via Charleroi). Bus 60/1 runs between Chimay and Couvin about 10 times a day.
The easiest way to access Chimay is by car.
- In addition to the beer, the village has lent its name to four varieties of cheese. The Chimay à la bière (Chimay cheese flavoured with Chimay beer) is a particular and unique treat for cheese lovers.
