The Chuquisaca Department is a region of in south-central Bolivia in a region where the Altiplano merges with the Valles (valleys) into the Gran Chaco lowlands. The name comes from the Quechua name for the capital Sucre.

The development of the department and its capital is closely linked to the silver city of Potosí. The area was managed from Sucre because the climate there is less harsh than on the plateau.

The climate is temperate and dry, with warm days and cool nights throughout the year. The eastern Chaco plain is hot and humid in summer and mild and dry in winter.
