Gagnef is a municipality in Dalarna, where rivers Västerdalälven and Österdalälven flow together to Dalälven.
The municipality has around 10,000 citizens. Djurås is the municipal seat and the largest town with 2,000 inhabitants. Mockfjärd has just short of 2,000 inhabitants. Gagnef itself has 1,200 inhabitants.

editGagnef is known for its preserved fäbod farming. Fäbod is a livestock shed used for summer grazing. Seasonal droving of cattle and goats was the predominant type of farming in Dalarna before modern times, and an integral part of the provincial identity.
