Juna Mahal

The historical town has been the seat of the erstwhile Dungarpur State. The Rajput royals ruled from here from 13th century to the independence of India in 1947.

Autorickshaws are the other main local mode of transport. Shuttles are available for transport in the city. Taxis are available near Gaip Sagar Lake. Private vehicle is the most convenient option.

• 1 Juna Mahal (Old Palace). 10AM-4PM. A former royal residence on the foothill. Accessed by narrow crowded road up the hill. Early Rajput fort palace built from 13th to 19th century by different rulers. It has seven floors decorated with local green stone called pareva, murals, frescoes, mirror and glass inlays. The palace is fortified and represent the evolution of architecture, art and construction from 13th to 19th century. Poorly maintained but worth a visit. • 2 Badal Mahal. A pleasure palace built on the bank of Gaip Sagar Lake. Now converted into small museum of royal items and stone sculptures. Free. (updated Jul 2024)
• 3 Naulakha Bawdi. An old stepwell built in 1586 by Premal Devi, wife of Maharawal Asakaran of Dungarpur State. Surrounded by forest area. Free. (updated Jul 2024)

• 5 War Museum. A small museum on army above a gate (updated Jul 2024)
• 6 Shrinathji Temple. Old Vaishnava temple with large statue of Shrinathji. (updated Jul 2024)
