Eeklo is a town in the northwestern part of East Flanders. Eeklo is about 20 km north of Ghent, the capital of the province. The town has almost 21,000 inhabitants (2018). The town doesn't have a lot of historical heritage that survived the ages, as most of the buildings got demolished and replaced with modern ones. However, it may make an interesting stop for the belfry. Eeklo is a great base for discovering the surrounding flat and rural areas that surround the town.

It was built in 1932 while most towns used to be a symbol of power for Flemish cities in the Middle Ages. This didn't prevent the belfry of Eeklo from being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
- 2 Huysmanshoeve, Bus 1. A historic farm complex dating back to the 13th century. The characteristic gate was built in the 17th century. The complex is owned by the regional government of East Flanders and has been transformed into a regional promotion and tourist centre for the northeastern part of the province.
- 3 St. Vincent Church (Sint-Vincentiuskerk), Kerkplein. The St. Vincent Church is the main church of the town. The church tower is more than 93 m high, which makes it the 8th tallest in Belgium.
