Description
English: The main house of the Groot Constantia vineyard near Town. In 1685 Simon van der Stel, then governor of the Cape received a 763 hecare grant of land and built the main dwelling in the Cape Dutch architectural style. The house was burnt down in 1925 but was subsequently restored.
Afrikaans: Die woning van die Groot Constantia wingerd naby Kaapstad. In 1685 kry Simon van der Stel, destyds goewerneur van die Kaapkolonie, 'n 763 hektaar landstoekenning. Hy het die woning in die Kaaps-Hollandse Styl gebou. Die woning is in 1925 afgebrand, maar is later herstel.
