Tunisian town
Haidra is in Saharan Tunisia.
Understand
editHaidra is the site of the ancient Roman city of Ammaedara of the Roman province of Byzacena. It originated around 30 BCE when the Third Augustan Legion was placed here to settle North African provinces, and develop them with roads and other infrastructure. In its time, Ammaedara was a diocese. Berbers eventually overwhelmed the frontier settlement in the spread of Islamic power across the northern African continent.
