Halblech is a small town in the Allgäu region of Bavarian Swabia.

View of the Buching side of Halblech

Halblech is located by the river of the same name, which feeds into the Lech River; hence the name, "Half Lech". Its twin village Buching is on the other side of the river, and both are on the Romantic Road, about 20 min from its southern endpoint Füssen.

While the town itself has few attractions to speak of, it's a pleasant enough little village with more amenities than you'd expect for its size. It makes a convenient staging point for visits to Neuschwanstein, only 15 minutes away, and is also popular for Munich locals as a weekend getaway near the Alps.

Get in

edit

Halblech and Buching are both on highway B17, about 20 min from Füssen and 1:30 from Munich.

  • 1 Hoch'Alp Käsehaus Allgäu, Romantische Str. 8, +49 8368 9142820. Lovely little cheese shop selling a wide range of locally produced Alpine hard cheeses as well as cured meat products and handicrafts. Try the Blumenkäse, with Alpine flowers pressed onto the rind.
