Humppila is a town and municipality in Tavastia Proper.
Understand
editHumppila is primarily known for its glass factory and railway history. The area of Humppila has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with archaeological findings including Stone Age artifacts and ancient relics. Humppila was first mentioned in historical records in the 16th century. Initially, it was part of the larger parish of Tammela, from which it later separated to become its own parish.
The arrival of the railway in the late 19th and early 20th centuries had a significant impact on Humppila's development. The railway enabled efficient transportation of goods and boosted local industry. Humppila Glass Factory, established in 1952, brought substantial employment and recognition to the area. The factory is still operational today, producing high-quality glass products.
