Western Montérégie is a region in Montérégie that stretches from Montreal in the north to the U.S. border in the south. The St. Lawrence River runs along its northwest side. It includes suburban communities, First Nations (Indigenous) reserves, and agricultural land. It offers many opportunities for outdoor activities.

  • 1 Akwesasne Mohawk Reserve Akwesasne 59 on Wikipedia — in the extreme southwest of Quebec. The reserve extends across the St. Lawrence River into Ontario and New York State. The Quebec portion of Akwesasne is much easier accessed from Ontario or New York (unless you have a boat), since there are no roads linking the Akwesasne reserve to the rest of Quebec. Its main tourist attraction, the casino, is on the New York side.

Coteau-du-Lac National Historic Site, in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, features Canada’s first lock canal and the remains of a fort. With a history spanning 7,000 years, the site was a portage and encampment location used by First Nations people to avoid the rapids, a military fortification, and a canal that opened the way for commercial shipping.

Zoo Parc Safari is an African safari park zoo near Hemmingford.

Water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, boating and other water sports on the region's rivers and canals.

Canyon Escalade in La Prairie specializes in indoor rock climbing.
