Ittoqqortoormiit is a settlement in eastern Greenland known for its remoteness and its proximity to the Northeast Greenland National Park.


Ittoqqortoormiit has around 400 inhabitants. The area is very sparsely inhabited. There are no other settlements of over 200 inhabitants for around 1,000 kilometers.

The nearest airport is 1 Nerlerit Inaat Airport (CNP IATA). which has flights to Kangerlussuaq and Nuuk, and in summertime to Reykjavik. Between the airport and Ittoqqortoormiit a helicopter transfer is needed.    

There are no roads outside settlements in eastern Greenland.

Cruise ships (expensive) come here during the summer.

The town's nearest neighbor is the largest national park in the world. Don't venture too far, though, as the likelihood of rescuing you in an emergency drops exponentially the further you get from Ittoqqortoormiit.




Polar bears are the most popular dish in Ittoqqortoormiit, but pretty much any kind of animal native to the area is eaten.


There's a bar in town right next to the hospital.
