unincorporated community in Missouri

Jerome and Arlington are unincorporated communities on opposite sides of the Gasconade River in Central Missouri, near the edge of the Mark Twain National Forest..

Understand edit

In the heyday of passenger rail and the early days of US Route 66, Arlington was a popular resort with a pool fed by an underground stream. During World War II much of the resort was demolished to widen Route 66 to four lanes to handle wartime traffic to nearby Fort Leonard Wood. US66 was later bypassed by I-44 (there is no bridge on the old road now) and Arlington is largely a ghost town.
