Khorramshahr[dead link] (formerly Mohammerah) is a city in Khuzestan, Iran, just north of Abadan.

Situated on the right bank of the Shatt al-Arab waterway, Khorramshahr is an inland port city. During the Iran-Iraq War, the city suffered terrible damage when it was captured by Iraqi forces in 1980 and later retaken by the Iranians in 1982.

Daily overnight trains links Khorramshahr with Isfahan and the capital Tehran, there are also a daytime train from Ahvaz. 1 Khorramshahr railway station is northeast of the city, not within walking distance.

A river ferry is available from nearby Basra, across the border in Iraq, taking just 45 minutes to complete the journey. The ferry is run by Valfajr Shipping Company[dead link] and there are multiple sailings each week.
