La Toussuire is one of the six ski resorts of Les Sybelles in Maurienne Valley, the 4th biggest ski area in France, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of Savoie. It measures 21.52 km2 (8.31 sq mi), with a population of 493 inhabitants.

La Toussuire is part of the Fontcouverte-la-Toussuire municipality. Jean-Pierre Vidal, a child who grew up in the resort, is an Olympic ski champion in 2002 in Salt Lake City. Nowadays he owns a sports shop in the resort with his dad.

Get out of the highway of the Maurienne by A43 exit 'Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne'. Then, follow the Vallée de l'Arvan (D78). You will enter in La Toussuire just after passing the Camping Caravaneige du Col. There is an enormous parking juste behind the building range in the downtown of the ski resort.

  • 1 Chapelle Notre Dame du Ski (Chapel of Our Lady of Ski), +33 6 06 48 24 05. open daily. After the passing of the last priest, the chapel is now used as a meeting and rest centre. There is a wooden Way of the Cross sculpture.
  • 2 Lac de l'Eriscal. An artificial lake, open for swimming in summer. In winter it is completely frozen and offers a beautiful landscape.
  • 3 Tennis courts (in the centre of the station). 2 tennis courts.
  • 4 Aurélia Vandevelde Massage Sybelles, 136 impasse Pierre Collet ou, 697 Rte des Champions. 8AM-8PM. Spa to have calm and relaxation moment.

Winter season

During the official winter season of the ski resort, between mid-December to mid-March, you can ski on the mountain.

There are 33 slopes: 4 green slopes, 4 blue slopes, 17 red slopes and 1 black slope. Total distance is 55 km. To get to the top of the mountain there are 10 chairlifts and 11 surface lifts. The highest will bring you to 2222 m. There is also a new big snowpark, for beginners and experts. It is adapted to everybody's level.

Summer season

Summer season starts at the beginning of July, and end at the end of August. It is the good season to do hiking, rafting or canyoning. You have numerous paths to reach different summits of the moutain. They are framed by barriers to avoid to go onto farmers' pastures. they highest peak is La Pointe de l'Ouillon, which culminates at 2431m. You can reach this summit by feet (it will takes you approximately 3 hours), and having an extraordinary 360° view on almost every ski resort of Les Sybelles.

At the bottom of the ski slopes, there are stores where you can buy ski clothes. You will also find a few markets to buy daily basic things, with some minimarkets and supermarkets.

  • 5 La Grange, 3 Rte des Champions, +33479830062. 09:00-23:00. One of the best-known mountain restaurants. You can find typical mountain dishes such as tartiflette, raclette, crosiflette, etc.
