Lagos de Moreno is a city of 154,000 people (2010) in Jalisco. It draws tourists on account of its history and old architecture.

editLagos de Moreno (population estimate 165,000 in 2015) is the 6th largest municipality in the state of Jalisco. It was named Villa Santa Maria de los Lagos by its founder Don Hernando Martel in 1563, and became known as the "Athens of Jalisco" due to the abundance of writers and poets from here. It was renamed after a Mexican War of Independence hero and later featured in the Cristero War, which was a battle over religious power in Mexico.

editWinters are mild with an average maximum temperature of 23 °C (73.4 °F) in January although nighttime temperatures are often cold, with an average minimum temperature of 3 °C (37.4 °F). Many days are sunny, averaging around 15-19 clear days per month and precipitation is low. Nighttime temperatures regularly fall below 0 °C (32.0 °F) but extended periods of frost are rare.
The Bajio's two main seasons are the wet season and the dry season. The wet season, which runs from June to October sees an increase in precipitation and humidity with July and August being the wettest months.

editDespite being in Jalisco, it's only about an hour from Guanajuato's largest city, Leon, but 2½ hours from Guadalajara, using the toll system. Bus service by Primera Plus and others happens at this station:
