The main parts of the town are on the Rhine, Oberlahnstein being south of the river Lahn and Niederlahnstein north of the river. There are also a number of small communities along and above the river Lahn belonging to the town. These include Friedland, Freidrichssegen and Lahnstein auf der Höhe.

- 1 Maximilians Brauwiesen, Didierstraße 25 (Oberlahnstein), ☏ . Excellent German food and beer. The micro-brewery has a large room with tables catering for small and big groups as well as good outside eating and a beer garden. For those who have drunken to much check out the facility in the men's room.

There are a couple of camp-sites situated in the Lahn valley between Friedland and Freidrichssegen.
