Lipetsk Oblast is a region in Russia's Chernozemye region, bordering Kursk Oblast to the southwest, Oryol Oblast to the west, Tula Oblast to the northwest, Ryazan Oblast to the northeast, Tambov Oblast to the east, and Voronezh Oblast to the south.
Cities
edit- 1 Lipetsk — established in Peter The Great times, Lipetsk became famous as a metallurgy city. Now it is hosting NLMK, one of the biggest steel plants in Russia. Another element of Lipetsk's notability is sanatory mineral water spring.
- 2 Dankov
- 3 Lebedyan — a small town with significant literary history: novelists Andrei Bely and Mikhail Bulgakov both lived here, while the great Soviet dystopian science fiction writer Yevgeny Zamyatin was born here; the town is also endowed with two cathedrals
- 4 Yelets — the region's second city and one of the oldest cities of the Black Earth region is an attractive place, on the banks of the Sosna River, and dominated by the massive Cathedral of the Ascension
- 5 Zadonsk — a small town on the Don River, home to the Zadonsky Bogoroditsky Monastery, the grave of Saint Tikhon, and the nearby Tikhonovskaya Convent of the Transfiguration
