Maihar is a city of 40,000 people (2011) in Maihar district, Madhya Pradesh.
Maihar is a religious pilgrim place for Hindus. Having the temple of Goddess Sharda, the deity of learning. The town was the capital of the princely state of Maihar before the indepence of India in 1948.

editThere are ample number of auto rickshaw and cycle rickshaw in the city.
The best way to get to the temple would be auto rickshaw (roughly ₹10 per passenger from Railway station to the temple). Shared autos and Tongas, horse-drawn carriages, are also available for the journey to temple.

editThe temple is one of the best places to visit in Maihar. The temple is situated in a mountain. One can go by stairs (more than 1000 in number) or can book a cab from Temple's office. Ropeway facility is also available there. It takes around 4-5 passengers at a time and covers the distance to temple in 5 minutes. The ropeway and cab facility is only available in daytime.
Apart from the main temple, there are other places like Alha Pond, Akhara of Alha and Udal, Golamath temple. If you are feeling adventurous, visit the Maihar ka kila.
One can also visit the home of Baba Allauddin Khan, famous sarod maestro, who was the father and teacher of Ali AKbar Khan, and teacher of the sitarist Ravi Shankar. It is approximately 1.5 km from Maihar Railway Station, on the way to the Temple of Goddess Sharda.
