Oliveira do Hospital (oh-lee-VAY-ruh doo ohsh-pee-TAHL, /o.ɫi.ˈvɐj.ɾɐ du oʃ.pi.ˈtaɫ/) municipality has 20,855 residents (2011). It is in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela Mountains along the Alva and Alvoco River valleys. Evidence of ancient civilizations abounds–Neolithic, Bronze Age, Roman, Visigothic, and Gothic.

The A35 motorway (also signed as IC12) is the closest to Oliveira. The exit for N337 also leads to N230, which goes into Oliveira.
