Palmeiras is a town of 9,000 people (2020) in Brazil. It is the main hub for Vale do Capão, which lies 22 km away. It is known for its ecotourism, being the host city of the Chapada Diamantina National Park.

Palmeiras also depends on many of its residents who work outside it and remit money to it. The agricultural sector is the second main productive activity in the municipality, especially tomato, coconut, banana, pineapple, passion fruit and cassava.
