Understand

edit

Paracambi is a city on the outskirts of the metropolitan agglomeration of Rio de Janeiro, about 70 km from the metropolitan core by train. It is located in the extreme northwest of Greater Rio, at the foot of Serra das Araras, a section of a longer mountain range known as Serra do Mar. The Paracambi (Japeri-Paracambi) railway line — an extension of the Japeri (Central do Brasil-Japeri) line — has its two final suburban train stations inside the municipality of Paracambi, being the last one in the city center. The urban expansion of the metropolis of Rio, which had the Japeri and Paracambi railway lines as one of its vectors, also ended in this municipality.

From the Central Zone of Rio, there are urban bus and train lines to the city of Paracambi. By train, it is needed to make a free transfer within the Japeri station to get Paracambi, where there are two stations: 1 Estação ferroviária de Lages (located in a residential area at the entrance to the neighborhood of Lages) and Estação ferroviária de Paracambi (the final station, in the Paracambi city center). Trains to Japeri depart from Central do Brasil station, and buses that go directly to Paracambi depart from Terminal Américo Fontenelle, also in the region of Central do Brasil, in the downtown area of Rio de Janeiro.

Those who do not want to use urban public transport can choose a more expensive way to go by bus from Rio to Paracambi: The route between the long-distance bus station Rodoviária Novo Rio. - in Santo Cristo, a neighborhood in the downtown area of Rio - and Paracambi is made by the bus company "UTIL" for around R$40,00 (Sep 2023). This route links directly the Central Zone of Rio de Janeiro to the Paracambi city center, located about 80 km from downtown Rio.
