Understand

edit

South Australia's Murray Riverland is one of the most relaxing holidays you can take and the Riverland[dead link] is the stretch of the Murray River that winds its way from the South Australia-Victoria-NSW meeting point and winds its way westward until it reaches the town of Morgan, where it turns south, toward the Southern Ocean.

The River Murray is at the heart and soul of this South Australian community and the Riverland has become the food bowl of South Australia, producing an amazing array of fresh fruit and vegetables and much of the wine that South Australia is so famous for.

Get in

edit

The Murray Riverland is a special agricultural quarantine zone to prevent the spread of fruit flies. Many common fruit and vegetables cannot be brought in, even from elsewhere in South Australia. If you enter South Australia from Mildura i.e. on the Mildura-Renmark road there is a manned quarantine station near the border. You are not permitted to bring fruit or fruiting vegetables past the quarantine station

The easiest way to get in the region is via car through the M1 South Eastern Freeway from Adelaide, which should take about 1.5 hours
