The town grew out of Rot an der Rot Abbey, a baroque abbey.

Get in edit

It takes thirty minuted to get to Rot an der Rot from Memmingen on A7, and hour and a half on the A8 from Stuttgart, and hour and a half on the A96 from Munich.

It is a really small village, so no reason to get a map. There are the walls of the abbey and the town outside.

  • St. Verena. baroque Abbey, which has an absolutely lovely baroque church, with very nice ceiling frescoes and altar piece. Also, the walls of the abbey are painted colorfully in white and gold, and have nice towers.

There are two restaurants in the village, an Italian one with cheap but not bad pizza that you will recognize by the sign of a man, and one where the only hotel is that serves very good classic German Food. There is one bar, which is next to the entrance of the abbey in the abbey walls.

  • Klosterhotel. The one hotel in Rot and der Rot. Offers clean rooms and good food at a decent price. It is owned by a husband and wife pair, and they are the sole employees.
