Sürmene is a town of 15,000 people (2012) in the eastern portion of the Turkish Black Sea coast, near Trabzon.

Not to be confused with the Sümela Monastery.


In Sürmene, which is more rainy than the center of Trabzon, it rains abundantly in every season. In the district, where winters are warm and summers are cool, the most precipitation occurs in autumn and the least precipitation occurs in spring. Humidity is quite high. Snowfall is less. Topographic features cause changes in temperature and precipitation conditions in short distances.

It is 40 km east of Trabzon, and 35 km from Rize. It is on the Black Sea coastal road.

It is possible to travel to Sürmene from most parts of Turkey by bus companies. If you get off at the Trabzon Intercity Terminal, you can reach Sürmene in approximately 30 minutes by taking the intercity road, which is 5 minutes away from the terminal, by taking the Sürmene minibuses or the Trabzon Municipality Private Buses.

There are daily flights to Trabzon from the big city centers of Turkey.
