Santarém is a city in the Ribatejo region of Portugal. Many of the city's churches are classified as national monuments.

Santarém (/sɐ̃tɐˈɾɐ̃j̃/, suhng-tuh-RUHNGY) has a city population of 29,929 (2012), and the entire municipality has 61,752 residents (2011).

  • 1 Castle of Santarém (Castelo de Santarém). Of this 12th-century protective fortification, only the Torre das Cabaças tower and a few stretches of wall remain.    
  • 2 Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption (Sé Catedral de Santarém). This 17th-century church was given the status of cathedral when Santarém became a Catholic diocese in 1975.    
  • 3 Igreja da Misericórdia de Santarém (Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Visitação). A 16th-century church built during the transition from the Renaissance to Mannerism. It has some Rococo features and has been a national monument since 1922.    
  • 4 Igreja e Convento de Nossa Senhora de Jesus do Sítio. This 17th-century convent is an excellent example of Portuguese Mannerism. It's been a national monument since 1923.    
  • 5 Igreja de Santa Maria da Graça (Igreja da Graça, Igreja de Santo Agostinho). Construction on this Gothic church began in 1380. Pedro Álvares Cabral, who "discovered" Brazil, is entombed here. It was declared a national monument in 1910.    
  • 6 Igreja de Santa Maria de Marvila. Medieval Catholic church built on the ruins of an old mosque. A national monument since 1917.    
  • 7 Igreja do Santíssimo Milagre (Igreja de Santo Estêvão). This 13th-century church was damaged by an earthquake in the 16th century and was rebuilt in Renaissance style. It was classified a national monument in 1997.    
  • 8 Igreja de São João de Alporão. 12th-century Romanesque church, a national monument since 1910.
