Sanya Phoenix International Airport (referred to as "Phoenix Airport") (三亚凤凰国际机场)is located in Fenghuang Village, Yanglang Town, in the northwest of Sanya City, Hainan Province, about 14 kilometers east of Sanya City Center and 5 kilometers west of Tianya Haijiao Tourist Scenic Area. The airport covers an area of 463.32 hectares, with a terminal area of 65,300 square meters, 7 boarding corridors, an airfield area of 3,937.576 acres, a runway of 3,400 meters long and 60 meters wide, and 48 parking spaces. Managed by HNA Group, it is the only civil aviation airport and commercial international airport in Sanya. It is the hub airport of China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, and is also one of the hub airports of Oneworld.

Phoenix Airport was rated as a four-star airport by Skytrax, and was selected as "World's Best Regional Airport in Asia Pacific Second Place", "World's Best Airport (Same Region and Size)" and other honors in April 2016. In March 2017, it won the second place in ASQ passenger satisfaction for airports with 15-25 million passengers in 2016, which fully shows that Phoenix Airport has been widely recognized by all sectors of society.

Phoenix Airport officially commenced operations on July 1, 1994. By 2017, the airport had a total of 44 operating airlines, including 28 Chinese carriers and 16 international and regional airlines. The airport operated 161 routes, with 134 domestic routes and 27 international and regional routes, connecting to 97 cities—70 in China and 27 internationally and regionally. The airport added 15 new destinations, including 7 domestic and 8 international and regional points.

Currently, the airport’s route network covers major provincial capitals and key cities in China, as well as important countries and regions along the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road," including Hong Kong, Russia, South Korea, Central Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. This has led to a relatively well-established flight network layout.

Phoenix Airport offers public shuttle buses that operate between the T1 terminal, T2 terminal, International Terminal, and the VIP terminal.

Sanya has over sixty bus routes, operating from around 6 AM to 11 PM. The ticket prices follow a distance-based fare system, ranging from 2 to 20 RMB. In addition, there are many privately-operated shuttle buses, and many hotels (resorts) offer free sightseeing buses to the city center and tourist attractions, making travel very convenient.

Phoenix Airport is one of the key transportation hubs in Sanya’s network. Bus routes passing through Phoenix Airport include routes 27, 29, 33, 36, 43, and 8. Additionally, there are Phoenix Airport Bus Line 1 and Phoenix Airport Bus Line 3.

Airport Anti-Scam

Arrival: Look for a taxi outside, don't follow the touts, and be sure to use the meter. It is not recommended to take the high-speed train to Sanya Station due to the heavy flow of passengers at the station.

In the international departure hall, there is a small branch of a large duty-free shop: China Duty Free Shop (Phoenix International Airport Branch). After passing security, go to the departure hall and the shop will be on your left.

Since Sanya Phoenix International Airport is small in size, the number of flights is very busy. Whether it is domestic flights or Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan/international flights, many people will not be able to book tickets during the holidays. It is recommended that you buy tickets one month in advance.

If you cannot book a ticket, you can try to use Haikou Meilan International Airport as a transfer.

Then transfer to the Hainan Ring Island High-speed Railway or Hainan East Ring High-speed Railway to Sanya at Meilan Station and go to Sanya Station. Then transfer to other means of transportation to the city.

There is no need to take the high-speed rail to the Phoenix Airport Station of Hainan West Ring Expressway, because Phoenix Airport Station is about 14 kilometers away from the center of Sanya, and there may be traffic jams for about an hour on the way to the city center.

In addition to Haikou Meilan International Airport, other Hainan airports can also be used, because other Hainan cities are relatively backward, and the air tickets will be cheaper.
