Sotenäs is a municipality in Bohuslän on Sweden's west coast. The municipality is located in the central parts of the province of Bohuslän with the Skagerrak to the west. The headland on which the municipality is located and is named after is framed by the Bottnafjord in the northwest and the Åbyfjord in the southeast.

In 2019, it was home to about 9,000 people, of whom 3,400 lived in Kungshamn.

Smögen is one of Western Sweden's most important fishing ports. In Kungshamn, Abba has a cannery.

The nearest international airport is Göteborg-Landvetter 25 km east of Gothenburg. Oslo Airport can also be considered.

The northern and western parts of the municipality are crossed by county road 174 and the eastern and central parts of county road 171.

  • There are numerous sites of historical importance in the municipality. These are mainly rock carvings and burial mounds.
  • Smögen is a popular destination for tourists. The place is on an island and can be reached via a bridge from Kungshamn. At the harbour there is a wooden jetty about 1 km long (Swedish: "brygga"). Here restaurants, fish sellers and souvenir vendors line up on the land side and the boats line up on the sea side, the Skagerrak.

The community is famous for its seafood.

The Smögen shrimp Smögenräkor are cooked in sea water on board the fishing boats. The crabs are on every menu and are usually served with bread or potato salad with lots of mayonnaise. Fresh dill is a must. Havskräftor, as the Norway lobster is called in Sweden, is a small relative of the lobster. Fall is lobster season. Lobster buffets and lobster fishing are offered.
