Spitak is a town on the shores of Pambak River in Northern Armenia.

editSpitak was almost destroyed by the 1988 earthquake that killed 1/3 of its 15,000 population and was rebuilt in another location.
In 2011, it had almost 13,000 people.
It sits 1,650 m above sea level, and is overlooked by the Bazum mountains to the north and Pambak mountains to the south.
Spitak has extremely cold winters and mild summers. The annual precipitation level reaches up to 440 mm (17 in).
