Suomenniemi is a former municipality in South Karelia. Suomenniemi is surrounded by Lake Kuolimojärvi, and in some places also Saimaa.

- Canoeing. The labyrinthine interconnected lakes make for good canoeing.
- Kuolimon kierros. 24 hr daily. A canoeing route from Suomenniemi around the largest lake, Kuolimo. There are lean-to shelters and trails to a few sights. The main part of Kuolimo is off Savitaipale. Connections to Suomijärvi across the Suomenniemi Peninsula, and to Saimaa by a 200–300 m portage at Kärnäkoski or by Orraintaival. Free.
- Hiking.
- 2 Saarajärven kierros, Karkauksentie 883 (by roads 14 km to the north-east). 24 hr daily. 5-km hiking trail with lean-to shelter (by the pond Kaakkolampi). The trail leads by forest paths, duckboards and village roads around the small lake Saarajärvi. Free.
- Swimming and fishing. Lake shores and ponds everywhere, although most roads to the shore leads to cottages. For fishing, check the regulations.
