Szécsény is a town of 5,500 people (2021) and district in Nógrád County.

editSzécsény lies 30 km (19 mi) from the county seat Salgótarján and 105 km (65 mi) from Budapest. Several bus services are available to Budapest every day but there is a railway line too.
There are also buses and trains from Balassagyarmat.
It is accessible from Slovakia for Kováčovce also from the new Catherine bridge.

The permanent archaeological exhibition showed finds of different periods (e.g. Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Migration period, Middle Ages) representing the history of Nógrád county. Free.

edit- 3 Hollókő. A beautiful old preserved village, part of UNESCO World Heritage List
- 4 Hollókő Landscape Protection Area (Hollókői Tájvédelmi Körzet). 141 hectares. The Hollókői castle with the old village since 1987, the UNESCO World Heritage list can be found. The surrounding area is under nature protection. The Bükki National Park designated around a castle - 'Castle Tour Path' that presents the cultural and natural values of the area. Take a walk or a bike. The path marked with green and there are 23 guide plates. Also part of its 6 museums and exhibition halls.
