Talk:Berlin/Schoneberg
Eew. This should be named Schöneberg, and I could maybe be argued into Schoneberg, but definitely not Schoeneberg. (WT-en) Jpatokal 12:29, 12 Nov 2004 (EST)
- It's not that bad! Simply follows normal conventions of transliterating without the umlaut and is used, in any case, by official German sites when doing the same.... http://www.berlin.de/ba-tempelhof-schoeneberg/index.html (look at the page title). If you really think it's that ugly though, I guess a change to Schoneberg would be in order.... (WT-en) Pjamescowie 14:23, 12 Nov 2004 (EST)
- Wikivoyage uses the most common English names, not official transliterations -- cf. Zurich, not Zuerich. You'd have to know German to be able to map Schöneberg into Schoeneberg, while leaving out the umlaut is pretty intuitive. (WT-en) Jpatokal 17:08, 12 Nov 2004 (EST)
- Yeh, I concur. So. I'll move it! In this case, official German transliteration is probably not the best option - although we should probably keep Schoenefeld with a redirect to the renamed page, just in case someone out there does know a little German and does the same as me....
