Talk:Berlin/Schoneberg

Eew. This should be named Schöneberg, and I could maybe be argued into Schoneberg, but definitely not Schoeneberg. (WT-en) Jpatokal 12:29, 12 Nov 2004 (EST)

It's not that bad! Simply follows normal conventions of transliterating without the umlaut and is used, in any case, by official German sites when doing the same.... http://www.berlin.de/ba-tempelhof-schoeneberg/index.html (look at the page title). If you really think it's that ugly though, I guess a change to Schoneberg would be in order.... (WT-en) Pjamescowie 14:23, 12 Nov 2004 (EST)
Wikivoyage uses the most common English names, not official transliterations -- cf. Zurich, not Zuerich. You'd have to know German to be able to map Schöneberg into Schoeneberg, while leaving out the umlaut is pretty intuitive. (WT-en) Jpatokal 17:08, 12 Nov 2004 (EST)
Yeh, I concur. So. I'll move it! In this case, official German transliteration is probably not the best option - although we should probably keep Schoenefeld with a redirect to the renamed page, just in case someone out there does know a little German and does the same as me....
