Does this article need moving to Cook County (Illinois) ?

I think Cook County is so sufficiently well known that most Americans (Maybe Canadians?) will know Cook County refers to the county Chicago is in. Using a {{otheruses}} should suffice if a disambiguation page is needed. -- (WT-en) Andrew Haggard (Sapphire) 22:31, 16 July 2006 (EDT)
Cook County is one of a small number of counties in the US that are well-known by name outside of their area. I live about 4 hours' drive from there, in another state, and if someone said "Cook County", I would not only recognize the name, but I would assume they were talking about the Chicago area. I can't say for sure how "much more famous" than other Cook Counties it is outside of the Midwest (where I live), but if you ask me, I'd say leave it.
I also just noticed that there isn't currently any other article for a "Cook County", and all the links to this article are referring to the one in Illinois. Being pro-active is nice, but I'd really rather wait until there is a conflict between two counties with the same name, rather than trying to anticipate them and creating unnecessary disambiguations. (Even if there is another Cook County somewhere, that doesn't mean we'll actually create an article for it. Counties are often the logical unit to divide a state region into, but not always. So let's cross that disambiguation bridge when/if we come to it.) Disambiguation is a last resort, to be used only when needed. So that's a definte "no". - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 22:38, 16 July 2006 (EDT)

Cook County edit

It's time to seriously reorganise Chicagoland. It seems to me that these county articles might make sense in a guide for locals who know all about the county boundries, etc. however they are not terribly useful for the traveller. If the counties are mentioned at all it should be in a geographical exposition in Chicagoland.

I'm definitely supportive of not using counties as regions, but given the famousness of this one it might be worth keeping as a redirect. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 11:18, 25 May 2007 (EDT)
Famous or not the page has sat empty for several years, and I think it's a good part of why Chicagoland has been stagnant, since nobody has wanted to undertake a county-by-county exposition of the suburbs. -- (WT-en) Mark 05:57, 27 May 2007 (EDT)
Redirect. I'm from that continent but not that region. I've never been closer to Chicago than its airport. I recognise "Cook county" but had never heard of Chicagoland until I saw the page here. I think that means some people might search for Cook county, so there should be a redirect. (WT-en) Pashley 06:25, 27 May 2007 (EDT)
Good point. I've done it. -- (WT-en) Mark 15:30, 27 May 2007 (EDT)
