Should this article be divided in Northern Cyprus and Southern Cyprus halves? Or maybe just Cyprus for the south and Northern Cyprus for the Turkish bit... Politics aside, the fact is that from a traveler's point of view (Get in, Get around, Talk, Buy, etc) there is very little left in common between the two. (WT-en) Jpatokal 12:56, 2 Sep 2004 (EDT)
- Done. Still cleaning up the split, assistance is welcome. (WT-en) Jpatokal 10:11, 3 Sep 2004 (EDT)
- Maybe Cyprus should be a disambig like Ireland. Otherwise, the Turks are gonna be mad at us for only relabeling their part. Or something. But if still prefer your original idea, just do it! -- (WT-en) Colin 16:53, 3 Sep 2004 (EDT)
- I'd definitely be for supporting the disambiguation option.... I literally just got back from Cyprus, having travelled on both sides of the Green Line, and talk there is of reunification under the EU aegis - once the problems are sorted out and economic motivations kick in (any day now.....) This, it is generally agreed, will eventually happen - and sooner rather than later - despite the recent vote against such a move by the South. Having a generic article for Cyprus as an island (à la Ireland), thereafter pointing to "South Cyprus" and "North Cyprus", can help Wikivoyage reflect the cultural - geographical differences (+ve), without cementing current political / administrative divisions (-ve) that may soon be undone..... - Cyprus is a little different from cases like Ireland or Korea in that it's generally accepted that the southern government is the legitimate one, and all the (realistic) reunification plans I've seen call for the TRNC to join the ROC with varying degrees of autonomy. FWIW, Wikipedia does the disambig thing for Ireland and Korea, but "Cyprus" goes straight to the ROC. (WT-en) Jpatokal 23:10, 3 Sep 2004 (EDT)
- Also, can you add in some data about current procedures for crossing the Green Line? My visit was in April 2003, which was still in the Bad Old Days when you could only day-trip to the North and had to return before 5 PM sharp. (WT-en) Jpatokal 23:10, 3 Sep 2004 (EDT)
Districts
editI suggest Cyprus is subdvided into its administrative districts (in a similar fashion to the regions of say Italy#Regions and in the way i have added this information to the Cyprus#districts page). That way villages can be slotted into an orderly place. However, I am not sure how to go about changing the Europe : Mediterranean Europe : Cyprus : etc.etc bit into this (visibale at the top of the page). Any help please? In the mean time I will continue adding the villages to the apprpriate districts.(WT-en) StephP 11:31, 5 October 2006 (EDT)
- Please propose the districts here first, and following naming conventions: it should be "Paphos (district)" in parentheses. (WT-en) Jpatokal 11:41, 5 October 2006 (EDT)
- OK, here goes:
- Nicosia (district)
- Limassol (district)
- Larnaca (district)
- Famagusta (district)
- Paphos (district)
