I visited Daman in the summer of 1968, and camped out just below the observation tower for several days as we hiked north into the valley beneath the tower and on to the next range of hills. It was the first time I saw the Himalayas and it took us several days talking among ourselves and to the locals in Nepali what the names of the various peaks were. Sunrise on all the days we camped out was breathtaking, but I was so taken with the visual splendor of what we saw that I cannot remember if I heard any birds singing at sunrise. I have always wondered if birds sing at sunrise there and what what birds they may be. Is there anyone who could tell me if the birds sing the Himalayas awake? David M.
