Talk:Kailua-Kona

This article should properly be for either Kailua or Kailua-Kona, as this is the actual name of the town. I don't know how to do this, and I don't know if others will agree on this point. The word Kona is commonly used to refer to Kailua-Kona, but Kona also refers to the windward side of an island. It's less ambiguous with Hilo, since that's the name of the town as well as the leeward term.

I moved the article to Kailua-Kona as there is already a Kailua article. Perhaps Kailua also needs to be merged with Kailua-Kona, however i do not know enough about Hawaii to say. --- (WT-en) Huttite 20:16, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

Kailua-Kona is an exceptional case to the naming conventions, in my opinion. Most people refer to it as Kona, but when they say Kona, they really mean "the major city on the Kona Coast of Hawaii," even if they don't realize that that means Kailua. Kona should really be a region, I guess, ((Kailua(Kona)?), which would actually work out better, since there are so many attractions there, even if there aren't very many towns.
