I alighted from the ferry but before I could walk 10 metres I was harassed by taxi touts.One taxi tout even followed me although I waved my hand that his service was not required.It seems that Tanjung Balai is a small town. I was on an errand that day and did not have the opportunity to explore the town. Prehaps, someone could tell me more in particular its night life.

The piece advises you to take a bike (baisikel in Bahasa Indonesia) with you - but this turns out to be tricky. On the ferry route from Singapore Harbourfront to Tanjung Balai I was advised by the Indo-Falcon booking staff that no baisikel were permitted, as the ferry is small. They said the same rule applied to the other ferry company on the route, Penguin. So I went to Batam instead. Clyne R R, Singapore
