I removed the following fine grained alternative regional breakdown as these appear to be Moldovan names, not English ones. I used the Factbook county breakdown instead. I left them here so that they can be moved into the individual county articles. -- (WT-en) Huttite 04:54, 19 Jun 2004 (EDT)

It is divided into 32 Rayons: 1. Anenii Noi 2. Basarabeasca 3. Briceni 4. Cahul 5. Cantemir 6. Călăraşi 7. Căuşeni 8. Cimişlia 9. Criuleni 10. Donduşeni 11. Drochia 12. Dubăsari 13. Edineţ 14. Erm. When Moldova gained its independence from the Soviet union, the Russian Rayon as the administrative unit was dropped in favour of the nine. A communist government was relected a couple of years back, they reinstated the Russian ones. There are no alternative english names for these. (WT-en) Mark Richards 14:27, 19 Jun 2004 (EDT)

Other cities? edit

The Project:World cities with 100K population or more lists two in Moldova but they aren't on the map and I did not see them in a quick look at the text. What is going on there? (WT-en) Pashley 09:56, 25 April 2006 (EDT)

Regions edit

I do not think we really need any. The sort of independent Transnistria needs to be defined on the map I think, but should it be formally defined as a travel region of Moldova? If so, what is the rest of the country called? With only two sub-articles for the whole country (Chisinau and Transnistria), regions would seem silly. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 02:32, 21 April 2010 (EDT)

Since they have seperate immigration procedures and even border gates when entering from rest of Moldova, Transnistria should definitely be shown on the map, either as a region or as a disputed territory as was done for Kosovo on Serbia map/Palestine on Israel map/Abkhazia on Georgia map. While the rest could use some regions, I agree that more than a region for a country with only one article is far too many at the moment. What about naming the rest of the country "Moldova proper"? At least on the map. I don't think we need to create a region article for that seperate from the country's one. – (WT-en) Vidimian 04:41, 21 April 2010 (EDT)

Get In edit

"Also, there is no Moldovan border check between Transnistria and Moldova as Moldova does not recognise Transnistria as a state, so you might have some explaining to do when you try to leave Moldova without an entrance stamp." I could not find any reports people have ever had problems because of this. After all, there will be an entry/exit stamp from Ukraine, containing date and name of the Ukraine/Transnistria border crossing so it is obvious how the passport holder has entered/left the country. I have traveled UA-PMR-MD-UA this January (2011) and wasn't even asked any questions on leaving MD. That said, I'd like to remove/rephrase this "warning" accordingly as it'll only worry people needlessly.(WT-en) T 17:53, 15 January 2011 (EST)
