Park v. District

edit

At the moment, this page seems like it occupies a bit of a hybrid type, as there is more than the SMMNRA between Malibu and Thousand Oaks. I'm sticking with the West Side district scheme above, including the state parks and local destinations beyond just the National Park Service land. No objection if this were to get organized differently for clarity in the future. MisterCustomer (talk) 06:48, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

While SMNRA is tough since it covers both city and federal land, as much as possible I think it would be best to keep this article focused on the actual recreation area itself (trails, historic sites, campgrounds, etc) and then provide pointers to the relevant city articles for restaurant or lodging options that aren't within the recreation area borders. Unfortunately we don't have a great article that this can be modeled after - Cuyahoga Valley National Park is probably the most similar in terms of being a park that is spread across a wide area that includes multiple cities, but that article still needs some cleanup to prune a few remaining questionable listings. In general Wikivoyage tries to avoid listing businesses in multiple articles as it becomes confusing for readers and editors to understand how the site is organized when content is listed in multiple places. That said, if there is a plan for SMNRA that makes clear the distinction between what is located in the surrounding cities while still allowing some duplication then let's see how this develops. -- Ryan • (talk) • 17:36, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Seems reasonable. I don't think I have anything that is double-dipped, but the Topanga area is really the odd man out. It could possibly be shifted over to be included in the Pacific Palisades article, perhaps. The Cornell locations can potentially roll into Agoura Hills. I think it's getting some meat on its bones, though! -- MisterCustomer (talk) 22:58, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
