Talk:South Georgia Island
Tour operators
edit@Grahamsands: This edit removed the list of operators who have trips to South Georgia. That's not necessarily a bad thing given that these lists tend to get filled up with tour operators who don't actually operate the tours they sell, but it's not accurate to say that companies sailing to South Georgia all sail to the Antarctic Peninsula as well. Cheesemans do a South Georgia/Falklands-only trip, and I sailed with Golden Fleece Expeditions on a South Georgia-only trip. Also, not all companies that operate trips to the Antarctic Peninsula also offer trips to South Georgia.
It might be splitting hairs somewhat, but particularly for those who want to see parts of the island other than Grytviken, Salisbury Plain and St. Andrews Bay, a trip that focuses on just South Georgia is probably going to be necessary. -- Ryan • (talk) • 22:53, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- But both Golden Fleece and Cheesemans do sail to Antarctica as well as South Georgia, according to their current brochures, and it's easier to maintain just a single list of operators. I certainly wasn't suggesting that every cruise to South Georgia is a combi, please amend the text if you think it gives that impression. Cheesemans even go on safari in Africa; the reader can click on the weblinks to find the relevant itineraries. If you're aware of a South Georgia or sub-Antarctic specialist, not travelling to Antarctica, then do please add their details, but I doubt any company could make a living with such a tiny niche market. - Further: hell yes, my sloppy text did give the wrong impression, so I've tweaked. Grahamsands (talk) 13:23, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
