Cautionbox removed: Site is open again and heavily visited

edit

I just visited Yaxchilan today, and can confirm it's open, and that there are also tours going there every day from Palenque. I'm told it's been open again for about two months. The story is that last year, narcos (drug traffickers) started setting up shop in Frontera Corozal, but the villagers rose up and blocked all the roads into the town, not letter any outsiders in, for several months until the narcos gave up and went elsewhere. A community association now operates a checkpoint on the way into town where outsiders are allowed to pass, but may be asked to register their names and state their plans, and to register again on their way out. There didn't appear to be a fee to pass the checkpoint (I was in a combi), and the people staffing the checkpoint didn't appear to be armed. HitchhikingBirder (talk) 00:43, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Glad to hear the site is open again! I noticed that you added quite a bit of new, up-to-date info about visiting Yaxchilan. Thank you very much, it is appreciated! Buen viaje, amigo! Mrkstvns (talk) 15:24, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
