editDue to location, low altitude and Geography surroundings, Taumarunui is more liable to warm to hot summers than other central North Island centres and in winter, Taumarunui is cold and frosty.

Do
edit- 1 Whanganui Journey. Taumarunui is the start of a 145 km (90 mi) river journey by canoe to Pipiriki. This is a Great Walk, with DoC campsites and huts, which must be booked in advance during the Great walks Season (October - April). The whole journey normally takes 5 days. You could do the first 22 km to Ohinepane Campsite as a day trip if you arranged to be met there.
