The template tells the formatting and language conventions to use for prices, times etc. in an area, usually at the top of country article talk pages (applying to any article about that country):

There are a couple of important parameters here, but the key ones are the |time=, |price=, not=, |spelling= and |phone=. The page name should automatically show on whichever country talk page it's put on. e.g. putting it on Talk:Denmark would automatically mean that what you see as "Formatbox" will instead show as "Denmark". There's more than five variables, and the table below should explain it all. All except for time are optional, however the spelling, not and price are necessary. Below is also a blank full copy of the template to quickly copy it to your clipboard.

Parameter	Status	Default	Info
`\|country`	Optional	{{PAGENAME}}	Name of the country or region to which the formatbox applies. If that is just the page name (with the "Talk:" removed), leave it empty. Use for countries like Georgia (country).
`\|time`	Required	24	The two main accepted values here are `12` and `24`. The other two are `canada` and `uk` because they have exceptions. To add another new exception, it will need to be discussed first.
`\|timecmt`	Optional		This is for any comments needed about the time. Mainly a note for largely undecided countries.
`\|price`	Required	n/a	Simply enter how the price needs to be written. If it's $100, then just enter `$100` into the price parameter. Note that whatever you enter will come up, including typos.
`\|not`	Required	n/a	This variable is for how prices should not be written. Please note that the "or" before the last written example isn't automatic, so you will need to add the or. So to get: and not CA$100, 100 CAD or $C100, you will need to enter `CA$100, 100 CAD or $C100`
`\|foreign`	Optional		This variable is if they accept foreign currencies in certain areas. Such could be like Brazil accepting US$, the Solomon Islands accepting A$, or the Falkland Islands accepting GBP. To enter it, just add how it's formatted. So "US$100 for US dollars, €100 for euros" would have to be written as `US$100 for US dollars, €100 for euros`. To make it bold, use the normal MediaWiki markup. ('''text''')
`\|reason`	Optional		If you want to specify why Wikivoyage uses that currency format. Not really necessary, but it does certainly solve the curiosity for some. If you want to write "because some areas use $100 to mention $100", write it as `some areas use $100 to mention $100`. Do not add a because in front. Do not write "because" since it'll produce a duplicate word. A good example can be seen at Talk:Mexico.
`\|extraprice`	Optional		For any extra information about the price. Whether there are templates used to get the symbol, or whatever peculiarities there are. Such examples like Talk:Falkland Islands or Talk:United Kingdom where in these examples, it explains on how to get the pound symbol from a keyboard layout where the £ symbol can't be typed easily.
`\|spelling`	Required	n/a	Add the spelling used here. Accepted entries are American, Australian, British, Irish, New Zealand, Philippine, Singapore, and South Africa. Other types of English varieties that are used but are not accepted are Indian, Maltese, Pakistani, Nigerian or Zimbabwean. This is because while it is its own variety, there is no spelling differences. The only reason why Malta has it is because the spelling is uncertain, and to avoid a political debacle for Irish. Refer to Wikivoyage:Spelling for more. So to enter US spelling, simply add `American` and nothing else.
`\|phone`	Recommended		Add how phone numbers are formatted.
