Usage

edit

Normal usage is as follows:

{{Ping group
| <!-- What to display on the page for text, [[links]] are acceptable -->
| <!-- First user to ping -->
| <!-- Second user to ping -->
| <!-- ... user to ping -->
| <!-- Ninth user to ping -->
| <!-- Tenth user to ping -->
}}

For example:

{{Ping group|Attention collaborators|John Doe|Jane Doe|Jimbo Wales|...|Jane Wales|Jimbo Doe}}
Usernames will not be displayed in this manner by default, although they will get a mention notification if they have notifications enabled.
If you want to always see the names attached to the ping on the page, add the following code to your common.css:
span.pinggroup-pinged{
    display: inline !important;
}
It is also possible to manipulate the output using your common.css or common.js to turn on or off the elements that are shown or not shown by default. The "shown by default" stuff is wrapped in a span.pinggroup-shown and the "hidden by default" stuff is all wrapped in a span.pinggroup-pinged and you may use these classes as you see fit.

This template also has the option to forgo the "alternate text to display instead of usernames. Use:

{{Ping group
| list=yes
| <!-- First user to ping -->
| <!-- Second user to ping -->
| <!-- ... user to ping -->
| <!-- Ninth user to ping -->
| <!-- Tenth user to ping -->
}}

For example:

{{Ping group|list=yes|John Doe|Jane Doe|Jimbo Wales|...|Jane Wales|Jimbo Doe}}

Note that like all "ping" templates, the notification system will only work if the edit includes an editor's signature with time stamp ~~~~ (four tildes). See {{ping}} for details.
