Template's a bit garish, don't we think? The bright yellow and red is eye-catching, but I think it might be a bit much. Powers (talk) 19:08, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I copied the same styles that are used by the existing "error" elements in order to be consistent (copied from .phoneinfo {color: red; background: yellow;}). Please update as desired. -- Ryan • (talk) • 19:12, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Does this template show automatically? edit

I seem to remember having to toggle it on. Since dead links can be used for malicious websites, etc. I'd have thought we should make this template opt-out for users rather than opt-in so travelers can avoid links that don't work or could even cause harm. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:54, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Weak support, I think we also need to consider how it is displayed if we do make it opt out - I would suggest a less visible marker with a longer explanation if you hover the mouse over it, as e.g. false positives do happen. The same setting in preferences turns on the NOCC warning on phone numbers - do we want this opt-out too. AlasdairW (talk) 20:25, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Can we just make links tagged as dead not display? Or have a bot delete them if they repeatedly test dead over a few months? Pashley (talk) 20:56, 14 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I like the first idea, but how could we implement it, and who would do so? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:58, 14 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
I find that some (around 10%) dead links are not completely dead. In a few cases the site simply is slow, or has recovered after a few days break. More often the site is still alive, but the particular page has moved. It would be useful to have a simple way of deleting the link by clicking on the dead link marker. Most dead links are fixed by deleting the listing, changing to a new link or deleting the link - ideally clicking on the dead link marker would give these three options.
